Britney M. Jones: Scholarship Winner

The Diamond in the Raw Foundation has really been a true blessing in my life.  This foundation is way more to me than just an organization that reveals behind-the-scene aspects to the entertainment industry.  Diamond in the Raw… I know it sounds catchy right?  But there is far more depth to that name and its’ meaning.  So I questioned myself, how do diamonds form exactly?  Doing some research I found that diamonds in its “rawest” from isn’t quite how we perceive it to be; the glamour, the beauty, and attention. Diamonds are put under extreme pressure and ridiculous temperature changes out of its control ultimately producing something that is so precious, very valuable, and simply breathtaking; the diamond that we have all grown to know.   But even in its most basic form, still lies potential.  The first annual Concepts in the Box Boot Summer Camp & Scholarship mentees are diamonds.  In our very own special ways; the journeys we’ve taken are not at all the same but we have all reached the finish line.  We’ve met great people from Lincoln Heights, Encore Hollywood, and especially the mentor meetings.  Just being able to be on the set and actually physically experience the making of Lincoln Heights was incredible.  We learned how the majority of Lincoln Heights was filmed on the set and how cool was that for our group.  We even had the opportunity to meet the executive producer Kathleen McGhee-Anderson, Ericka Hubbard, Russell Hornsby and Rhyon Brown of the show.  Also during the program we visited Encore Hollywood the visual effects/post production house which was simple indescribable.  I want to thank Barbra Marshall of Encore for allowing me to able to go there personally and learn first hand about visual effects.  But let me tell you, before I thought acting was easy and breezy but I learned how difficult it can be when we shot the three minute movie “Lipstick” through the Diamond in the RAW Foundation”.  I realize that it does take hard word and a lot dedication.  But really thanks the Diamond in the RAW Foundation for a wondering uplifting experience.  Concluding I want to share an original poem that I wrote especially for diamond in the raw.

Poem

The RAW in Me…

I’m just a girl, nothing less.  I treat people the way I would like to be treated but never get treated the way I deserve.  I hope for tomorrow even when there is no hope left.  I give my all to E V E R Y O N E I LOVE.  I mess up.  I grow up.  But never except me to give up.  I have never fully understood why people give all for nothing in return.  But then I realized there is always something worth the risk.  I am beginning to except the fact that everything does happen for a reason.  No matter how stupid that reason might be!  Life is a privilege and that’s what may get confused.  I am a puzzle and daily I am putting each piece together one by one.  I’m not that easily understood but for those who took time and effort to put up with all my nonsense understands me far beyond you can imagine.  I am guilty of building walls with no intention to keep people out.  I am curious to see who cares enough to break them down a love me no less than before. I am a handful.  Britney Megan is the name and I’m just a girl and this is me.  This is an open book of that somebody that not everybody gets to see; the raw me. ™
